Salvador
Volunteers in this project in a coastal village north of Salvador, Bahia, will design a month-long module around the theme of the Living Seas. The aim is to encourage adolescents to develop social responsibility by understanding and appreciating the importance of the oceans to their local community, and through that to the wider world. At the end of the module, the participants will present a show to the local community.
The work will take place on weekends. There is some flexibility as to the length of time spent on this project – it would be possible to design a two or three month module instead of a month.

This area of Brazil is rich in history and cultural traditions. You can take classes in capoeira, learn about the history of slavery and its legacy, participate in drumming workshops, sample Bahian cookery, learn local dances and take courses on Brazilian music and its traditions. You can go whale watching, visit the spectacular national park where diamonds were mined, join in or watch candoble, the local voodoo religion, or simply walk miles of unspoilt beaches. We can arrange trips for you to points of special interest in the North East, such as Fernando de Noronha or Morro de São Paulo.
